"We booked a very last minute stay here. The drive into hotel is lovely and from the outside a lot of character. Inside main hotel was modernly decorated and still had character. We had a room in the coach house which is in the next building to the hotel. The room was quite dated compared to main hotel. Good sized room. A little dusty in areas. Plenty room for clothes. "Unfortunately not a perfect stay which was very disappointing with it being my husband’s birthday, booked through Hotels.com so not allowed to use the pool unless we paid £45 each, I have never heard of this before.The rooms are very nice but paying £5 for nut or crisps is ridiculous. The breakfast was very underwhelming with minimal choice, awful cold poached eggs, cold plates, weak coffee, all left me feeling very sick! Not worth £291 for one night. "

"Visited for our 32nd wedding anniversary and was not disappointed. Booked a classic double room but when we arrived were informed that they upgraded us to an executive room which was really large and immaculately prepared. We had use of the spa facilities if needed for additional cost but free use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna for 1 hour per day which made for a relaxing time after a long walk around York. "Rooms are dated but clean. Take a free parking disc otherwise there ia a charge for one at the hotel. You can purchase a permit in the hotel for street parking near the hotel. We booked early, so would've preferred a sea view room with long windows on the 1st floor . Great hotel if going to the spa theatre. "

"Reception staff were friendly and helpful, but we found that staff on the bar downstairs to be rude when we asked if they were open. Grill on the Hill staff were great, despite reviews on google the food was great. The room was comfortable and clean, does need better or more pillows. The only thing we didnt like was that other guests left litter such as glass bottles and expired vapes around the grounds. As well as inconsiderate parking taking up 2 spaces. Would recommend for a short stay."
