The Milner is a beautiful building, and the service and room were very nice. Strangely, they only have a few OTA channels with no guide on the TV. I didn't visit York to watch TV, but it's relaxing after a day's walking.

I loved the way the lounges have been developed although sitting in the window in the evening was not a good idea as the outside lights were blinding! However, the effect outside was stunning. Welcome on reception was excellent but dining room was hopelessly underwhelming. Food was good but service was lamentable. Young lady serving needed some proper support

This hotel is so majestic, such an old building with so much character. So peaceful & relaxing only wish we had stayed longer, perfect for the short walk into York & just a few steps from the railway station. We will definitely return.

No dressing gowns in suite, had to ring reception twice and wait 40 minutes before they were delivered. Cobwebs on windows and dead wasps on window frame/sill. Several long black hairs on the arms of the sofa - this should be vacuumed after every guest has checked out. Empty bottle of beer round the back of the bath, the housekeepers have clearly not cleaned this room thoroughly. Only one can of still water in the room. Three of the radiators we could not get to turn on, it seems like they’re not working properly. Overall, a disappointing suite. We expected more from The Milner. We were left a underwhelmed.

The breakfast was very very poor for a 4 star hotel and for £19. Only 2 fried eggs left, only 3 pieces of over cooked bacon left, the bathroom door wouldnt close but they fixed that and the tv remote didnt fully work, there was no program guide or channel list and the menu was locked so I couldnt fix it and neither could maintenance either.

Staff are really nice and helpful. We had issues with our room and were moved to another to compensate it was upgraded. The annex or sidings it's called is tired and shoddy in places. The further you walk from reception the standard declines and I would personally avoid unless room was cheap. The main hotel is very pleasant and has character and charm. Lots of road works and very very busy hotel position over Christmas. There is a pop up pup in the grounds which can be a bonus if that's what you want. Would I stay again.. yes if the price was right for the main building. Very convenient for station and has a door onto the platform. Very nice people and despite the issues a pleasant stay.

Lovely hotel close to the station which was perfect for an overnight business trip. The only thing I don't like is the restaurant layout which is somewhat canteen like (the food was excellent though). A hotel of this style really needs a more upmarket intimate restaurant alongsid the main offering.

The location was excellent and most of the staff are friendly, the entrance is gorgeous, but we’re very disappointed the room we stayed. Our room was lower ground in annex building which is so far from main building. The room is not worth the price at all. There are stains on the carpet and smell of mold. The shower head was dirty and it’s obvious they didn’t look after the room well. The first day, they cleaned the room and filled amenities but forgot to fill water. The 2nd day they tidied up the bed but did not vacuum the floor and didn’t fill the amenities except for water because they said we didn’t hang the cleaning request card which confused us as they still cleaned the first day without the card and they still entered the room and touched the bed on 2nd day but ignored the dust or hairs on the floor. We have to say the cleaning level is very terrible and poor. Breakfast level was also not good compared other hotels we stayed in UK. I cannot believe this is a 4star traditional hotel and does not warrant the price for one.
