Finest Retreats | Hickleton Hall Estate

Stay in the Grade II listed Georgian stately hall, situated in picturesque grounds and gardens within the village of Hickleton, South Yorkshire.

The original hall built in 1748 has been previously used as headquarters in the Second World War, before being converted to a girl’s boarding school in the later 1940s, and most recently has been undergoing extensive refurbishment to be restored to its former glory. Finest Retreats are pleased to offer a fantastic spacious apartment within Hickleton Hall for up to nine guests, with access to part of the 17 acres of gardens and woodland.

Transport back in time when you enter the sweeping driveway and are met by the eye-catching period property. With parking for multiple vehicles, enter via your own private entrance on the ground floor, where the beauty of the historic building continues in the elegant chapel bedroom, with gorgeous sky views through the glass ceiling providing generous natural light. Why not take a moment to discover its historical past with beautiful paintings and tapestries and uncover its and bygone era.

With steps down to the lower ground floor, find two king size bedrooms and separate bathroom with shower. Along the wide-open corridor, a diner/kitchenette with microwave, kettle, and coffee machine.

Recently opened for June 2023, a new lounge/games room with piano, pool table, smart TV and Wi-Fi – an ideal room for family get togethers and making memories. Along with the new fourth bedroom, including a king size four poster bed and period furniture.

Previously featured as a filming location for many TV programmes and paranormal documentaries, it’s a famous piece of Doncaster History. For more information or bookings please contact Finest Retreats!

Please be aware when booking, security is always available on site to monitor the grounds; however, they will not require access to the apartment during your stay.

Amazing place to stay
Beautiful historic building that has maintained the original character during renovation with appropriate decor, furniture and fittings, which is lovely to enjoy and a rarity in this modern day of hacking up period properties for profit.
Stayed 2 nights in Jul 2023

Fabulously large and grand property with huge outdoor space for the pups to run around in and animal spotting. I’d recommend you read the reviews before booking - they’re pretty accurate. It’s a wonderfully unusual space but the fridge is very small so plan accordingly and check the facilities in case you were expecting a full kitchen.

Interesting stay
Amazing building and grounds, perfect location for our needs. Light levels difficult, needs extra lights in kitchen and dining area.Kitchen not great for long stays, we took a hob, lack of plug sockets. Only one bathroom, not the problem we anticipated, only 5 of us, but might be an issue if 9 staying. Interesting pictures and artefacts made the stay memorable!

Need to get the basics right!
We throughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful hall but we’re disappointed by the lack of basis that were provided. Prior to arrival we were aware that there was only a microwave and no dishwasher- what we didn’t expect was that there would be no T towel to dry the pots nor a cloth to wipe the surfaces! We had to dry our washing up with a towel and ration the quarter of a paper towel roll we were provided with to last all weekend. We also had to ration the one toilet roll we were provided with! No tea pot so had to make up to 8 individual cups of tea, and the low lighting in the kitchen made food prep almost impossible! The house and grounds are lovely but for something labelled as a Finest Retreat we really felt as though significant corners had been cut.

Hickelton Hall lives up the grand building it Is as you approach.
Smooth check in and felt right at home. Once inside the rooms downstairs are tastefully done . The main bedroom upstairs does give off a horror movie vibe. The host left milk and preseco in the fridge that was a nice welcome gift. The grounds are well kept and have garden furniture to enjoy the lovely views the place has to offer.

Superb stay at Hickleton Hall
Stunning period grand house in fantastic grounds with awesome views. Delighted to find that we had the whole place to ourselves. Even our three teens were impressed and at least one ventured outdoors to explore during our stay. The rooms were warm and cosy and we had everything we needed. The property manager was very helpful and informative about the history of the house. Lighting in the kitchen area made it difficult to prepare food safely. Fortunately I had read previous reviews and bought my own additional lights. The fridge door was broken which made it difficult to store milk upright. Also in the kitchen could do with extra electrical sockets for the kitchen equipment. Maybe additional extension cables in the games room for the kids' myriad electrical devices. Wifi was good with extenders everywhere, but the broadband kept dropping out, couldn't even watch a tv programme without interruption, so investing in a better broadband package would be beneficial. Fortunately we bought books and board games which temporarily staved off teenage angst about being disconnected from t'internet.

This is the second time I’ve stayed at Hickleton Hall and it was just as wonderful as the first stay
The property and grounds are incredibly beautiful and my entire family enjoyed our time here. We had a small issue with toilet being blocked which was resolved very quickly and efficiently by the grounds keeper Frank, who was a delight to meet and chat with. Frank was very accommodating during our stay and even explained some of the history of the house to us. A top guy! We are looking forward to returning, thank you :)

Not to be missed!
Staying at Hickleton Hall is not for the faint hearted...its got a real spooky feel to it...just Google the house for ghost hunting....but it's a real amazing experience! The accommodation itself is fantastic, the grounds are beautiful and the house was clean and tidy as described. loved the piano room and big shout out to Frank who looks after the grounds and spent time talking to us about the history of the house. Youll think you're in Bridgerton...Not to be missed!
