"It was a very cozy. I stayed for 4 nights and really enjoyed my stay. Complimentary breakfast buffet every morning and really friendly staff. Has a washer dryer at the hotel and is right across the street from a couple grocery stores."

"Good experience to stay in traditional Japanese house.clean and kitchen well equipped. Washing machine was convenient. Due to it being an older building, insulation isn’t very good and gets very cold in the winter and need heaters in all rooms. Location is not great as it is walking distance to most places. Bus stop 7 minute walk. Could have provided more furniture such as chairs. Overall nice experience besides being on the cold side."

"We wanted to stay in a traditional house that could sleep two couples and this was a great experience. I think if you had little familiarity with Japan and/or Kyoto, it would be a bit hard to find. The neighborhood was not hard to navigate, but it was a good ten minute walk to the busy part of shijo-dori. We arrived very late in the evening but had no trouble. "The machiya was fantastic!! Great location!! Very clean and had all the amenities we wanted! Upstairs room with Western beds was spacious and beautiful! The boys loved the futons downstairs for a true traditional Japanese experience. "

The included amenities were great, attractions were either walkable or a station was within a block away, but the best was the staff - very helpful and hospitable. "
