"lili kyoto is not a typical hotel. It is small — three units on the ground floor, probably about the same on the floor above (I didn’t take the elevator up to check). It is totally unstaffed; to get in the front door you must obtain a code from the owner/manager. I got mine by having a nice lady in the Kyoto railway station tourist office call the owner/manager, who promptly emailed instructions. The front “lobby” and hallway are unheated. "The guesthouse is quite nice, the dorm I stayed in is just 4 bunks, which is a good thing when staying is guesthouses. The showers were very clean for a shared situations. The location is in a charming district near Kyoto university. It can get a little loud at night with the university students drinking in the area, but that wasn’t really a problem if you have earplugs. "A beautiful traditional inn/hotel, our room looked over the garden- very serene and lovely to take an evening walk in (all lit up) and likewise a morning walk (dressed in the provided yukatas). A little further out from some of the main Kyoto tourist spots but that's fitting for the location and Kyoto is very well connected with buses and the subway. Only wish we could have stayed longer! "The ryokan was definitely traditional. It was a wonderful experience, and the duvet was the most comfortable thing for the cold winter nights. "This hotel is absolutely beautiful and the amenities are outstanding. Pretty convenient and walkable to many train stations. We loved the breakfasts, the nightime ramen, all-day matcha lattes, popsicles/ice cream, massage chairs, and on-site onsen! Staff is very helpful and welcoming. Very easy for non Japanese speaking travelers and great for families with children."

"My husband and enjoyed our absolutely perfect stay here. The room decor was warm and inviting. The quality and amenities were top-notch. Absolutely the best rest we had during our 14 day trip in Japan. The included breakfast buffet was pleasing ro the eye and tasty. The staff kept the food stocked and the area clean. The hotel was close to train and bus transportation. Do not hesitate to book a room here; you will not be disappointed. We look forward to staying here again on our next vacation in Kyoto! "

"Appreciated the daily water bottles and refrigerator, and pajamas. Nice warm shower and bath, and relatively roomy to other places. Next door to all conveniences. Couple blocks from train station. Easily rolled our luggage to hotel. Kindly held our luggage when we came early, so we could easily explore Kyoto."

"Great, clean, simple but modernized hotel. In between the train station and parts of the touristy areas, so you’ll be taking the bus/public transit and walking quite a bit, but overall great location. This is a 4-star hotel that is very busy and offers clean and comfortable rooms with nice bathrooms, that are simple but effective. "
