"Our stay at the Refugio Lodge exceeded all of our expectations, with Augustin and the staff making us feel at home. The hotel was beautiful with clean and spacious rooms. The attached cafe (with free breakfast included) was amazing and i still think about the banana pancakes and coffee. "It's a basic hotel with friendly owners and a cute little dog. The room has little room, as the beds (3 in every room) take up most of the space. The breakfast is simple, primarily eggs, fruit and toast. It is a great option if you are looking for a budget place to stay with decent beds and a warm shower. It can be a bit noisy in the morning. "

"The property is very quaint, the rooms are large and fit our family of 6 just fine. The staff is great, the pool is amazing, and the views of the beautiful trees and wildlife were top notch. Each day a family of macaws would fly over the hotel while we were eating breakfast, it was breathtakingly beautiful. I highly recommend this hotel. "

"The host was very personable and took care to provide information of things to do around the surrounding area. However, the road to get to the hotel from Arenal was treacherous as it was mostly uphill, lots of curves and unpaved making it difficult to navigate."

"I wish I could give this place a rave review because the family who owns it was so friendly and helpful, but it did not live up to our expectations in ways other than the good service. Our "panoramic view" room did not have a panoramic view. This was rated a 4-star hotel, but really isn't one. Our room was rustic, smelled musty, and the bed clothes were old. The breakfast was good, and there were lots of animals and birds on the grounds, and there was a lovely view, just not from our room. "

"We loved our staying at Riu Guanacaste. The hotel was in a nice location. They have monkeys right next to the hotel and the beach was very nice. The staff was amazing and the food was very good, they have a wide variety of options at the buffet, the only thing I would say is that the other restaurants are a little difficult to book because you have to make a line before they open to get a spot. The road to get to it needs to be paved. Im glad that they will be updating this hotel because it needs it, but I will say that I loved everything about it. The entertainment crew is really great. I will definitely recommend people to stay here and I will definitely come back again. Pura Vida! "
