"Beautiful grounds and buildings. Good restaurants/bars internally and others walkable distance downhill (taxi back for the less fit). The main asset of the hotel are the brilliant staff who treated my wife and I wonderfully. Would recommend this hotel without hesitation. Great week there. And Madeira is beautiful - did a tour of the western and northern sides - fantastic."

"This was our third stay here at Quintinha São João. It really feels like the most wonderful home away from home rather than a hotel. You're made to feel so welcome and looked after by the most dedicated and friendly staff. I can't imagine anywhere else in Funchal coming even close to this place. And it's all mostly because of the staff too. They can't do enough for you. Everyone from the reception staff to the serving staff to the cleaners and the spa staff made us once again feel so welcomed...

"This is an excellent hotel, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Madeira. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, everything is extremely clean, the breakfast is delicious with lots of choice. The room was big, tastefully decorated and well equipped with a comfy bed. The hotel is set in a botanic garden that’s a wonderful oasis and so relaxing. There is a great pool and other leisure facilities. There is also a tortoise. What more could you want? Look no further - stay here! "
