"Quaint family run Ryokan that’s big enough to offer everything you’d want / need, but small enough to feel like home for a couple days. Very friendly owners. Delicious breakfast included with our stay. Outdoor onsen was beautiful; indoor “family/private” onsen was nice with kids."

We had never stayed in a ryokan before and would recommend KOKUYA to all our friends and family. The food was incredible and we enjoyed the variety of Onsen available just in the hotel (we never made it to the public onsens). They also had a shuttle to the snow monkey park in the morning, and will transport your luggage back to the train station upon departure. We will be back to spend more time in this wonderful place."

"We had an amazing and relaxing 2 night stay here. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains. The staff were very kind and helpful, and the Kaiseki meals and breakfasts were great (and huge). The public and private onsens were really nice, and not crowded at all possibly because we visited during the summer. Great location to visit the snow monkey park! "

The staff were amazingly attentive and helpful, provided transport for us to see the monkey park and get us back to town in time for our train back. The evening meal was absolutely incredible and such a lovely experience, and the Onsen was outstanding. We loved our stay and would definitely stay again with absolutely no hesitation."

"Really enjoyed my 6-night stay here. It really is a traditional Japanese hotel and experience and loved the friendly and helpful staff, and the location is just a short 10 min scenic stroll across the river to the bus/train station. Didnt know what to expect but the Japanese style tatami rooms were cosy and comfy, and the outdoor onsen was just what was needed after a day on the ski slopes. The half-board option is a must if you love Japanese food and each night was like a little banquet with an array of different and fresh local dishes, and was great value. Not a 5-star hotel by any means if thats your thing, but all in all a great stay and good location and Yudanaka is quaint little village at the foot of the Alps, that is worth a wander around, as Shibuya Onsen and Snow Monkeys are closeby.
