I was hoping the bar would be a gathering spot for all the guests, but I never saw it open (appears to be by reservation?) That we were encouraged to return by 9 PM was also a bit onerous (given it is 30 minutes from the city centre), but an understandable part of the guesthouse experience."

"The ryokan was definitely traditional. It was a wonderful experience, and the duvet was the most comfortable thing for the cold winter nights. We used the private open-air bath twice, once with sudden notice. The hotel staff were still happy to accommodate us despite the hour, and they were overall very kind about everything. They let us know about evening lantern event, and breakfast available for purchase at 9am in a cafe near by. Location in the park is convienent for some travelers without transportation visiting the park. It was a short hike from the bus stop at the museum.
