"This is a beautiful, large house designed and constructed in the 1930s for a wealthy Hilo family. The main interiors are dark wood, with original custom bannisters and similar craftsmanship, and the furnishings are period-correct. The present owners have upgraded in various ways, including adding in-room air conditioning (we didn't need, but it was nice to have the option), retrofitted bathrooms, kitchen, wiring, and similar. "I feel spoiled to have stayed in this house. It’s situated on immaculate grounds, about 20 min north of Hilo. There was plenty of space for my family of 5 (kids 13, 11 and 6). We really enjoyed viewing stars, the close proximity to Akaka Falls, and the lush front yard area. House is nicely appointed, had everything we could have need and was a lovely getaway!"
