"It's a basic hotel with friendly owners and a cute little dog. The room has little room, as the beds (3 in every room) take up most of the space. The breakfast is simple, primarily eggs, fruit and toast. It is a great option if you are looking for a budget place to stay with decent beds and a warm shower. It can be a bit noisy in the morning. "

"This was such a gem of a place! The view was absolutely amazing - you could see down the valley, and then all the way to the ocean. The room was clean and spacious, with floor to ceiling windows on three sides. It's such a quiet area and I was happy that we were up high (even though the hills are steep!) rather than in the center of town, which seemed very busy, with lots of hotels and restaurants and stores packed in tightly. The views are amazing, but the best part of the hotel is the family...

"Nepenthe is a gem. You need to grab this stay for as long as it stays a gem, the owners are getting older and are actively trying to sell. Make this trip, you will not regret it. Stay for the week, there is plenty to do around Arenal, do not spend hours driving that you could spend listening to the howler monkeys, watching the toucans every morning, or enjoying the oropendola living their day. "

This family-run B&B (hosted by a wonderful husband and wife) offers a beautiful property with acres of land to explore, giving off a charming British countryside vibe. "There was no communication between staff and guest because the staff "acted" like they couldnt speak english and when i used a spanish app they acted like they had no clue until they needed my money then suddenly they understood what i said and english. Constant noise and animals. Pool sucks too. They provide a home cooked breakfast which was really good so thats why they get 1 star but nothing else."

"The shower's hot water is not strong enough, so you need to turn the water volume way down to have a decent temperature shower. The room sound insulation is very poor and you can easily hear the tv from next room. The room service is ok, and the bed was not set every day."

"Dirty hostel. Disrty pillow cases, musty rooms, slippery grated floors outsude to get in, no handicap entrances, very limited breakfast hours of 1.5 hours 6:20am-7:30am only. Flught was delayed in NYC due to flooding so we didn't get there until 2 days later and no one was on the premises- had ro go next door to another hotel to get someone to call that bed and breakfast. "

"I was thinking just a room with the breakfast included option for two people but it turned out they have a full kitchen, living room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The host and her daughter were super friendly and willing to help us out. They recommended a good local restaurants and our stay was very comfortable. It’s a nice location too. Close to the downtown but still very quiet. "

"We stayed here in 2019 as well. Incredible views of Lake Arenal, volcano and jungle with howler monkeys and beautiful birds. We love the Eagle's Nest for a morning coffee and just to enjoy the view. 30 minutes from La Fortuna and 5 minutes from 3 nice restaurants and markets. Will go back again in the future. "

"This location is fantastic. Check in, communication, check out, everything was as easy as it gets.The Good:The location itself was amazing. The town of El Castillo is, in my opinion a much better choice than La Fortuna. There's almost no traffic, its unique, gorgeous and you get that authentic local feel because there's seemingly few other tourists there. There are no souvenir shops or shops to browse but there are several places to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and theres great coffee, views...

"Pros: Amazing hot springs, good kids area (fun slides), everything was clean, cart rides if needed to rooms, great security, staff was great, location is perfect (close to volcano) and restaurants Cons: Towels/locker area for day pass people was inconvenient, walking up hill (rooms far away), lots of people, limited restaurants, day pass people have to have cash for towels (inconvenient) "
