"We were very pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Red Lion. We were in a family room which was large. The bathroom was big too. Bed linen and towels were excellent. There was plenty of tea and coffee in the room. We had dinner in the evening and the food was really good. The staff were all very friendly and the atmosphere in the pub was so comfortable. We really cannot fault anything. There was plenty of car parking space. Value for money this stay was amazing. We would return for certain if we needed to stay in this area. Only 10 minutes off the M6. "

"Wow! A great budget hotel that is worth every penny! We stayed in 2 of the garden rooms which had lovely patio doors overlooking the garden. The bathrooms are a little tired but the rooms are spacious and the beds comfy. Free wifi and parking were fab and the location was only a short walk to Lord Street and Marine Drive etc. The breakfasts were amazing value for money at £5 each, including a cooked breakfast, toast, pastries, jams, spreads etc, fresh fruit, cereal and tea and coffee. Lynn, a lovely French lady was very accomodating, she really looked after everyone. Nothing was too much trouble. Yes, it's not a penthouse but if you want a budget hotel within walking distance of Southport's attractions, it is ideal. There were some fabulous shops, restaurants and bars on Lord Street. I would imagine the garden rooms we stayed in would be great in the summer months with your own patio overlooking the garden. Many thanks Balmoral Lodge, we will be back! "

"Ready at our ETA. Quick access (online check-in, key in door). Owner came to make sure we were OK, answered our questions, told us where he was (next door) in case we had a problem (we didn't). Didn't bother us again. We had the small Dairy Cottage - plenty of room for the two of us - but patio doors straight onto the big garden which the other cottages didn't seem to have. We sat outside a lot just having a cup of tea and looking around at greenery. It's hypnotic. We didn't want for anything. Every home comfort was provided. We had some nice walks but, if you're looking for food, turn right at the canal bridge towards Leo's. Turn left and you end up at a dismal pub that advertises food outside and inside but doesn't do it. We were told 'kitchen closed' at our lunchtime visit but reviews suggest it hasn't done food for a few years. My only suggestion for Martin Lane Holiday Cottages? Update the guest information folder. Otherwise an excellent short break and we would certainty go back."
