As the MTA rehabilitates and maintains subway and train stations across New York City, about 1% of its annual budget is allotted for installing permanent art installations intended to “raise the quality of the ride.” 
There is a whole series of these stained glass subway art windows along the 7 line in Queens. It’s pretty easy for subway commuters to take this type of thing for granted but I think we can all agree that displays like this really do raise the quality of our ride.
