"The hotel is up the hill away from the madness of the beach and downtown areas, but still a 15 minute walk to the heart of Gavea and a 15 minute cab ride (download Uber or app called "99" before you go!) to Ipanema and Leblon. Everyone at the hotel is friendly and helpful. The breakfast each morning is superb, especially when the monkeys come and join you. The pool is small but the hot tub is great (you have to ask them to heat it up 40 minutes in advance, though, and they shut it down...

"We booked the Amora Hotel just a few days before our stay. The room was spacious and clean for our family of four we only wish we had an ocean view but unfortunately all those rooms were booked due to our late booking. The pool is heated. The staff was great. Breakfast was included and was one of the best we've had in Brazil. The ocean water in front of the hotel is more for surfing than for swimming. "Lovely old building, with lots of character. Admittedly the condition is slightly dated, but is part of the charm! Marianne was very helpful, explaining the local area and arranging a taxi for us. Bedroom very spacious and the pool area overlooking the city is brilliant! Santa Teresa is a cool neighbourhood too. Would recommend. "
