"À hidden gem of a hotel in Kyoto. I always stay here when I return to Kyoto. A beautiful, well-appointed entrance, and as you pass through the door… fragrances and music that inspired Zen, a modern, uncluttered decor with a beautiful marriage of wood in contemporary architecture, a small bakery in the entrance area where the you can buy a variety of breads baked on site and a courteous welcome as we are used to in Japan. It is obvious that the design team had all their talent and heart at work. The attention to detail to create a near-perfect atmosphere for all the senses…yes, all the senses…was very evident. From the fragrances of the soaps, to the faucets in the shower, the creative work was evident there. The well-equipped restaurant for dinner and my best breakfast in a hotel to date, the bread bar filled with products cooked on site. In addition, a roof terrace on the 6th floor with bar, sofas, heaters and warm blankets in the evening when the temperature was approaching zero. "

"This hotel is very well run but has some physical limitations as the rooms on the lower floors can have bad views (a construction site on one side and a parking lot on the other. The exception is the higher floors but they need to be facing away from the train station which can be easily heard otherwise. The staff is amazing and the buffet breakfast is spectacular! The lobby and public areas are Japanese chic and dramatic. I upgraded to a room on the 8th floor and it was an executive room so included lounge access. (Highly recommend doing this!) The location near Kyoto station is not pretty but it is very convenient for day trips to Nara (do this!) Osaka and the Shinkansen trains to Tokyo and beyond. Once I got the room upgraded, it was a perfect stay. I’d do it in advance next time and get the executive room with lounge access. "

"Overall good. Only complaints are that our Superior Room was not at all sound proof as it advertises; you can hear very clearly what is outside and what is inside. Also, bathroom shower curtains smelled like mold. Otherwise, everything was great especially the food for breakfast and dinner (dinner also costs about 100 USD and isn’t with any package, but was very fancy)"
