#lksawaydays 5b/2020/ After a stroll around the charming town of Ludlow our plan was to stretch our legs on one of the Symonds Yat Rock Trails. The drive back south took us about an hour and by now the weather had deteriorated but not enough to put us off. After a final sharp right turn we arrived at the large car park set in the woods, the viewpoint and trails are free but there is car park charge, we paid £4.80 for a 5 hour stay. As first time visitors to Symonds Yat we decided to head to the viewpoint first and then tackle one of the trails. Symonds Yat sits inside the Wye Valley in Herefordshire just a stones throw from the Gloucestershire border. Once you reach the viewpoint you will see a truly visual spectacle as the River Wye winds itself through the gorge. It’s definitely worth revisiting on a spring sunny day. Next up was to tackle one of the trails, we opted out of the 17km ramble as today was not that day but worthy of our time later in the year, we settled on the 2.8 mile trial. The other trails look fab and on one you have to use a hand ferry to cross the river!

"The staff were very helpful and friendly but were missing from front desk quite often and for extended periods so we had to wait to get issues resolved. It is in a convenient location, near several places to eat but it's not easy to walk into Pontypool as the main route is a dual carriageway. We had a room for three and my daughter said the pull out sofabed was very uncomfortable, it did appear to be collapsing. I'd stay again as a couple though. "

"The hotel was fine - the bed was a bit too hard and also too low for our liking. The Marco’s restaurant was a complete let down - but I’ve done a separate review for that! We booked the hotel with 24 hour room service - this was not available after 8:45pm - we also booked the hotel with daily housekeeping - this did not happen - our bed was unmade and we had to phone reception for fresh towels and extra refreshments - all very disappointing given that we paid extra for the executive room and...

Gloucester Robinswood Hotel, BW Signature Collection

"The swimming area was very good, clean and staff approachable. The evening meal was another matter. I am diagnosed coeliac and when l told them one waitress thought gluten free and coeliac were two different intolerances. When the manager was told , he bought me pages and pages of listings for me to check whether what l was ordering was g/f. Not very helpful! However breakfast was more understanding, knowledgeable and helpful. One person in every 100 according to the BBC this very morning are coeliac and small cafes and larger chains are now all geared up with g/f listed on menus, it’s about time Best Western got up to date with gluten free as well or someone could be very ill with the restaurant staff lack of knowledge about intolerances. "
