"The room looks like it’s been water damaged and the ceiling and walls were bogged with cement. Staff were very nice but the property was very poor. I didn’t like the communal kitchen. I want to make a coffee first thing in the presence myself. "

"A very different experience for a foreigner, and one that I cherished as a student of Buddhism. If you aren’t adventurous, I don’t recommend it, and if you go, please be curious, open, and full of respect. The non-sleeping rooms will be very cold in winter, the food served is the food served, without changes available, there are rules about which slippers to wear where and what can be photographed, etc. If you’re interested in deep travel (versus hedonism), you will be gifted and changed....

"Beautiful views from the top viewpoints of the hotel. Turn-down service was excellent. A very large property so it can be a long walk navigating the property. Multiple onsens, the cave onsens are fantastic and amazing view."

"Everything was good, cleanliness, space, friendly & helpful staffs, location & etc. The only discomfort I had was the thin layer of futon mattress. The blanket was warm and comfortable but the mattress was very thin. Not comfortable to sleep on."

"There are no place to eat in the hotel also no restaurant in walking distance. Service was very poor. I have to call taxi myself. they dont call taxi for you. Hotel.com should take off this hotel from list. Hoitel itself are nice and clean."

We stayed for two nights with our 10-year-old son, hoping to gain a deeper understanding of life in a Buddhist temple—and it exceeded our expectations. "A very unique one night only experience. The property is immaculate. The dinner was a wonderful tasting of many things I had never tried, all very good and filling. Breakfast was not as good. The hotel staff was very accommodating and kind. The morning prayer was peaceful and beautiful. "It's a great hotel, it has anything you need. Private bathrooms are clean and and provided with amenities. Shampoo, soap, conditioner, brush, sponge, etc. A great buffet breakfast is provided Also it has vending machines and also the hotel has an Onsen (hot spring) and public bathing facility on the 1st floor. I highly recommend it "

"I didn’t really like having to leave my shoes at the front and use public slippers, the bathroom was useful but a bit cramped and the cooler/heater was hard to get the right temperature in the room. But I really liked the hot tub onsen and the staff were mostly friendly. "

"The property is newly-furnished & we stayed at the 1st floor Japanese Tatami room - it was sparkling clean & the only downside of this property is not located at the Shirahama center but within 10 mins of driving. Highly recommended for those who self-drive!"
