We learned to take the bus to wherever we were headed for the day. There’s a killer gelato place at the Piazza Baccaria where we went daily. Easy walk to caffe and dolci because we didn’t want the available hotel breakfast. Good restaurants. A lot less touristy and better prices, yet only 3 blocks from the Arno. "We were very happy with our stay at the hotel Duomo. The room had an excellent view outside our balcony. The Duomo had scaffolding at the time of our visit but it did not take away anything. The location is excellent. You are right at the main square and the distances to the museums and to the Ponte Vecchio were just a few blocks away. Everything was walkable. The staff were so friendly and very accommodating. Water and coffee is free and they had pastries available any time of the day."
