"We had a great experience staying at Yumotokan. The dinner was exceptional (very filling!) and the rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. The variety of onsen baths was great, each one unique and beautiful. The futon beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet. "I cannot speak highly enough about this ryokan. From check in to check out the staff was very attentive to our needs and helpful with whatever we needed. The rooms were clean and traditional style, but included a tv with streaming services, which I loved as a traveler! And the onsen was like heaven after walking around Kyoto in February. It was always clean and well organized. When I come back to Japan, I will def stop here to rest!"

Would be great for a value with larger families, but be prepared to understand the busses or get a taxi, not a ton to do in the immediate area. On the other hand, staff was nice, limited but plenty of English with my terrible Japanese. Food was excellent and beautifully plated. "This hotel was the best! The room had everything we needed to have meals outside of a restaurant, along with a full fridge and freezer. There were two loft beds over two beds on the ground, which was ideal for the two kids to sleep up and out of the way. The staff was friendly and helpful. We never wanted for anything. 10/10.
