"Umami is a gorgeous garden hotel! We loved our suites. The decor is just stunning. The staff is courteous and kind. Breakfast tasted amazing! We loved the rice and beans. The parking is minimal. However using bikes, a tuk tuk, or walking is the best way to get around this jungle beach town. Bring earplugs because the birds and other lodgings in the area may wake you up. As a Jamaican, I loved our culture mixed in. We loved Old Habour aka Puerto Viejo! We will definitely go back and stay at Umami...

"If you want to stay in a lovely place with a small great staff this is it!! I woke up for a morning swim and was accompanied by a flock of tucans in the tress right behind! Amazing place pretty close to downtown. Would recommend "

"Can’t say enough about this beautiful property. I’ve never been so relaxed. Granted we did stay in the upper level suite, but the entire place was majestic. They also have an excellent chef and bartender. Only steps to some beautiful beaches, dining and nightlife. You won’t regret it. "

"We loved having the beach and good dining very close. The grounds are beautiful and we saw howler monkeys, common black hawks and sloth right on the property. Playa Cocles is across the street with some major waves! Our apartment had a kitchen which was very convenient. It is close to the street and adjacent property, so not quiet. The only inprovements we would like are a replaced shower head and mitigation of the sewage smell (brief) near the stairs."

"If you want amazing hospitality and relaxing vibes this the place. The staff made it all perfect. We stayed for 4 nights and left completely relaxed. Don’t forget to visit the sister property they have a very nice pool. The only observation is the dining menu is always the same and very seafood forward. However they are great restaurants nearby. "I thought that the environment was fun, there was usually good music playing in the common area & the common area itself is spacious and entertaining. However, this place needs to renovate its rooms if it’s going to be charging more than $50 a night. The room we stayed in had two small twin beds with a very thin mattress, the floor looked very old and run down, there was dust everywhere, the fan in our room broke down twice... (this was disappointing because when I asked for a replacement...

"sylvia was so accommodating and provided us with very helpful tips for our stay. before arriving she helped recommend and book multiple excursions and tours for us. and anytime we had questions while we were there she answered on whatsapp or in person very quickly. she’s very kind and el jardin is a lovely quiet and safe little place "
