"We loved our stay at Calathea Lodge. They helped us book awesome tours with excellent guides at prices that saved us a bit of money and a lot of time! We also really liked the location. The lodge had a deck with a great overlook and was walking distance to downtown. We took that walk and really enjoyed a great afternoon right after arriving. We took the night tour and saw some very interesting night life in the nearby forest. Our tour the next morning through Monteverde with Xavier was great! He was meticulous in adjusting his scope so that our cameras took the best pictures. We got several pictures that could actually be framed! We followed the tour bus in our own vehicle and were really glad that we did. We were able to stay in the Monteverde Cloud Forest much longer than the rest of the group and return to the lodge at our leisure. There are so many paths to hike, you don't near cover the forest during your tour as you are always stopping to see something interesting with the guide. The guide saw so much that we would have missed - including a baby viper snake and a rare beautiful Quetzal bird. The room was spacious, clean, and very enjoyable. Overall we would recommend this lodge to anyone - great stay and great value too!"

"There were howler monkeys outside in our first morning when we arrived. We also saw scarlet macaws both mornings we were there and the breakfast was nice and convenient to start the day with. The staff were very friendly and very helpful in planning tours for the days."

"Great hotel for a great price. One of the few hotels I’ve stayed in where the pictures do not do it justice, the view from our mountain suite was amazing. The room was clean, spacious, and secure. The room doesn’t have A/C which threw us off at first but this is typical for the area as the cool mountain wind was more than enough for a comfortable stay with the windows cracked. The area around the hotel is surrounded by forest so it was extremely quiet and relaxing, calm enough even to see some wildlife roaming freely through the property. The overall decor of the room and common areas was extremely beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, specifically the gentleman at the front desk and the gentleman that kept the bar in the evening and served us breakfast in the morning. I can’t recommend this place enough. We wished we had time to stay here longer but we will definitely be back!"

"Honestly, this hotel should be rated much higher. It felt luxe and private. Employees remembered us by name, always friendly, warm, and attentive. The pool was exceptional- heated to a perfect temp and so big that it always felt as if we had the whole pool to ourselves. "

"Don’t hesitate to stay at Hotel Belmar with your family. First time to Costa Rica and we wanted a hotel with a beautiful atmosphere- close to the cloud forests, clean and good food and drink. This is it- the hotel was even more beautiful on the inside than I expected. I love the small details like an actual tree to hold the sinks in the guest bathroom area. Our room was one of the basic ones on the first floor in the main lodge and it did not disappoint. The most helpful part was that the entire staff was so kind and going the extra mile. It made everything else very easy. We really enjoyed the yoga classes as well. Even kids are welcome at yoga! We booked a Guide through hotel belmar and saw monkeys and other animals in the nearby cloud forest and also did the El Tigre waterfall hike as recommended by the staff. It did not disappoint love riding horses up the steep hills. We slept soundly every night and could not have asked for a better start to our trip. Don’t forget to ask the hotel to arrange pick up at San Jose or Liberia airport for you. It was reasonable at about $200 And much better than driving those windy Mountain roads at night."
