"Beautiful, modern, very tastefully decorated property. The front desk attendee was very hospitable, a warm welcome to our first time in Yufuin! Gems is a minute walk from the station / bus stop, and is located centrally to Yufuin town. The walk to Kinrin lake was beautiful, with views of the mountain on the street. The room we booked was incredibly spacious, and although designed for 4, did not feel too empty for 2. The bathroom is so well done and so clean, with a huge bath tub that just invites a private soak. We would stay again next time! "

"I love that this hotel was completely different than what I expected. Upon arriving I was pleasantly surprised by the bed & breakfast style of the hotel and the nostalgic memorabilia displayed throughout the hotel as well. The staff was very informative and accommodating to my needs while speaking english. I felt right at home. The free hot chocolate was delicious which I sipped graciously in the living room after a hot soak in the private onsen. I had such a relaxing experience. I am looking forward to visiting Yufuin again and returning to this hotel! "

"summary: a very good property of you are willing to do some extra crucial admin compared to a hotel stay. positives: great location, facilities, space, feel. wonderful private onsen that really made the place. negative: it is not like booking a hotel where you just book and turn up. there is a lot of email tooing and froing and you have to read your e-mails carefully because if you don't do some key actions you arrive there unable to receive your entry code. you are also instructed to create done new accounts. it worked ok for us but by the providers own description there are a lot of cases where this doesn't work out and people are upset because they can't access the property. my experience was that the owner was very courteous and responsive, but it was a lot of admin hassle, and i got frustrated, especially when i was repeatedly asked for the same information multiple times with dire warnings about what would happen if i did not provide it. my advice to bookers is that you will receive a lot of emails. read them all very methodically. take care to reply to the correct email address (the emails come from a do-not-reply address). be prepared to receive additional requests for the same info. my advice to the owner is to do some trial runs if the booking system with a test booker and find ways to simplify the process. i have given a 5 star review because it is a great property and the owner was trying to make it all good, but i did not enjoy the admin."

"Nice property just off the main street, near train station. It is pet friendly with 3 resident cats roaming around the lobby. You get to book 2 sessions at the baths after checked in, the semi open bath on the 2nd level is popular, while the rooftop bath may not be a good idea in cold weather although the view is great. You get free use of the bicycles for your stay. There is no lift so you have to carry your luggages up and down the stairs."
