"We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Royal Oak. Food can be ordered in the evening until 8pm and the menu is extensive and good value. We received a friendly welcome at this family run inn. The full english breakfast was delicious and included in our room price which made it very good value. The bedroom was large with a fairly new ensuite shower and toilet. There are woods across the road where we walked our dog. 15 mins to Durham made it perfect for our needs. I am sure we will return. The...

"Good place to stay. Quite close to route of travel between England and Scotland. Aldi, Petrol station, washing machines, restaurants all around the accommodation. Excellent communication with Joanne for checking in. There is a handy small shared kitchen on the ground floor."

"Very disappointed with this stay booked for the family (2 adults and 4 children) months in advance for the half term. The advert said that it was suitable for the 6 of us. When we got there, there was a king sized bed (very comfortable) and 2 single beds but no made up sofa bed for the remaining 2 guests. The sofa was filthy with stains of food and drink. "Overall everything was good, our only issue was after being there for a few days we noticed the toaster was full of crumbs, obviously not been emptied for quite some time, and the oven tray had not been cleaned after it had been used. "Had a lovely one night stay at Hedgefield House. It was very quiet and peaceful and was just what i was looking for, for a good night's sleep. They don't have breakfast available but that suited me as i only wanted to sleep there. The owner was very warm and welcoming and his cat Lilly was extremely friendly in the foyer which was another reason to go back! 😻"
