"Buffet variety for dinner and breakfast was great. Live sushi and tempura made in front of you. Huge selection! You also rent by the hour a private onsen which we did. Public onsen was okay. Had steam room and sauna and cold plunge area. Enough lockers and showe stalls. Extra towels and water stations were there. Rooms were big and separate rooms if you have 4 people. Mix of western bed and futons on the floor. "

"The hotel is old and in disrepair but everything works. The food is just adequate but the open bar with beer, sake, wine, shochu helps. The onsen was fine with one large rotemburo outside and three large baths of varying temperatures inside. The service was great though, the staff always greeted you with smiles and were very helpful. It’s a 23 minute walk uphill from the train station or an 800 yen ride by taxi. "

"Ideal for a one night stay…. The private onsen was the true highlight….The daily historic sweets set on the table in the room was a delicious welcome. The kaiseki meals the first time we ate them were absolutely wonderful….However….it was hard to eat them twice…Even though they were beautifully prepared-one can tire from fish, mollusks, fish flavored tofu, raw eggs and seaweed, morning and night…They should switch up the meals daily…Also- drinks should be brought to the meal rather than having...

"We had a truly memorable stay here. Beautiful setting and all very serene. Akiko san was our host for our visit, and she was fantastic at introducing some of the customs and etiquette associated with staying in a traditional Ryokan. I'd recommend that anyone considering this looks up the rules and etiquette for Ryokan stays first before booking. It's not for everyone. But if you're trying to immerse yourself in the culture of Japan, I think this is a must. "

"The stay at Yamagaso was a unique experience. I recommend doing the half board as the Kaseiki dinner and the breakfast were fantastic! We also love the private onsen and the convenient access to the other onsen at the hotel next door. "

The room was nice, and the hot spring-fed bath on the patio was lovely, though it might not work for two tall people at the same time. "
