"The hotel is in a great location, with a walkable area and a lot of restaurants around it. We stayed in a room with pool view and were actually able to walk out the room and go straight to the pool. There also was an ocean view from our room, although we never got down to the beach. The staff was friendly and all the amenities were fine. Free parking was limited, especially since it was also being used by the locals. "

"Overall a good experience. Our room was upgraded to a junior suite upon arrival which was a nice touch however a night there was a lot of noise until late as well as early in the morning. I’m not sure if this was due to location of the room (being on first floor and above the dining room/kitchen). It was difficult to sleep, especially if you’re a light sleeper."

"This was our third time staying at this property. Joe's brother Nelson and his wife Ana greeted us when we arrived and were excited to show us all the upgrades Joe has done. New furniture in the living room, a new cabinet beside the table in the kitchen, new dishes and pots and pans and both bathrooms totally renovated. We love the location on the water and everything you need just a stroll away. We are hoping to return next year."

"The staff is absolutely exceptional. Very kind, polite, helpful and the nicest people. The location is pretty good too - about a 15-20min walk to old Funchal. The walk back could be longer due to the uphill but nothing too crazy. Parking can be tricky but I never had an issue parking at the lot that was designated for the buildings but not for the hotel. "A wonderful surprise this hotel turned out to be. Loved the old world feel of the reception area in the main hotel and the pool & sea view are exceptional. The staff was so knowledgeable and took time to show us about. We had dinner included but were not able to make it so, lunch was provided for us. The breakfast buffet is the best I have seen in Portugal with eggs made to order, warm breads and wonderful fruit salad to mention a few items. Overall, I would come back just to relax by the pool....
