"The experience of staying at Kalani Oceanside Retreat was very relaxing and beautiful. We enjoyed the yoga class we signed up for very much. The people we encountered, both guests and staff, were great to talk with. The cottage we stayed at had lots of room and we had a fabulous view of the ocean and grounds around us."

"Staying on the papaya farm was a rustic refreshing change. Sleeping to the sounds of tree frogs and birds was lovely. Our hosts were great. The only issue we had was this property is listed as handicap accessible. I hope the host removes this before someone who is really handicapped rents it. There were rocky steep steps going into the cabin (the host gave us a sheet of plywood to lay down, but it was too steep for the wheelchair). There was also gravel going from the bedroom to the kitchen...

"It’s in an unpaved road it looks really runs down like they made huts/rooms on a piece of land the pools looks unsanitary when I first looked at the picture for an entire unit it looked like I was getting everything in one house all connected but it’s not this place is like a community use and very private at all"

"This property is an unusual little gem tucked away in the rainforest. The host has created nicely appointed, comfortable guest cabins. The cabins, the shared kitchen/dining building and the grounds are well maintained and artistically decorated. "The whole family loved our stay at this cute and cozy cabin in the rainforest. The cabin is well stocked with everything you need and we enjoyed the gas fireplace and the hot tub. The cabin is close to restaurants, a market, and Volcanoes NP. Ten out of ten we recommend!"

"This tiny home was a perfect spot for our father/son excursion to the Big Island. It had a fully equipped kitchen which was great for preparing meals. Everything appeared to be brand new and it was immaculate. It is secluded and private and had a great screened in area with fire pit. Communication was perfect, and was needed to find the location. I'd stay here again for sure. It was a great value and very comfortable! "

"The house is on a 1-acre lush property in a quiet neighborhood set one street back from the ocean. Very convenient location but one should have a vehicle as the neighborhood is enormous and 4 miles to the main road. House was as described but we didn't know up front about the downstairs situation (as Vinnie H. described in May 14, 2024 post). "We loved the modern cabin and its amenities. Convenient location only 3 miles from Volcano National Park. Not as secluded as you might think - which could be good or bad depending on what you’re looking for… Neighbors were noisy at times and you can hear highway traffic. But you also hear frogs and birds! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend and would book again! "

"It was perfect for our state. Very clean kind of treehouse vibes in the middle of the fern forest the price was extremely reasonable. Location is very secluded in the middle of the forest gravel road going in very dark if you come in late but very safe location we stayed in number five had a perfect shower table microwave small fridge upstairs had a bed and a restroom, I would recommend If you like to save the environment and stay away from lots of touristy types of properties. "All staff were welcoming and helpful. It was nice having a fridge, microwave and sink to be able to eat in at times. Laundry facilities were available. I'd go for a dip in the ocean right next door and then hop into the pool. Very relaxing. Ask for a room, second floor, overlooking the pool as this gives you a nice view of the ocean as well. Very good location in Hilo "

"One doesn't really go to the lodge for its fabulous amenities. It is a piece of history and as such - sure, it's dated, no TV most rooms are a bit small and the washrooms are tiny - But clean. You go there for the volcano! This time around (our 5th time staying here) the volcano was right out front. Nice dinner in the pub with a non stop view. Plus we splurged on the large park side room and watched the action all night. The staff are truly wonderful and live the Aloha spirit. Highly recommend "

Thitd time’s a charm!

"We’ve stayed in the Volcano area three times and this was the best accommodation by far. Check-in was flawless and our room was clean, large, and comfortable. The hosts have thought of everything. There was a mini-fridge with freezer and a microwave. There were also a few necessary cups, dishes, silverware and glassware. This is SO important in Volcano, as there are so few dining options. If you bring a well-stocked cooler, you could spend several days here comfortably. We would stay here again."
