Perfect house for a no-frills family vacation. The water level in the lake is extremely low (about 20% capacity) so it was a bit of a trek into the basin to get to the water every day, but not the end of the world and, obviously, outside of the owner's control. Communication was a challenge in the months preceding our rental but it ended up working out. The community is lovely and very secure, which is great, and they strictly control who is allowed to enter at the gate. All of the people we met at the lake and walking the neighborhood were very friendly and the boaters weren't blasting obnoxious, non-child-friendly music as is the norm at other California lakes. The house is advertised as sleeping 10 but they only allow 8 names on the list of people approved for entry, although the owner allowed us to add the other 2 under "special comments." Unfortunately, when those people arrived at the gate they wouldn't let them enter since they weren't on the list of 8 names. After much discussion, they eventually let them in but we were worried for a while there and it was a bit embarrassing for those people! The house is rustic and not terribly clean, but that meant we didn't have to worry about much, which was nice. Sheets and towels were all very clean, though! The AC wasn't working the first day so my husband (who's an engineer and can fix almost anything) cleaned all of the filters (they were extremely dirty), but still no luck. The owner's dad was super nice and came out on Sunday to look at it. Turns out there was a breaker panel my husband hadn't found and, after flipping some breakers, it came on. The AC worked great the rest of the time we were there. The water pressure in the showers is very low so be prepared if you have a lot of hair and just know that it won't be rinsed well! The dishwasher flooded the kitchen every time we ran it so we just piled towels on the floor every time. The house is quirky and has a lot of character. All in all it was a pretty fun place to stay, several steps above camping and we'd stay there again!
