"We stayed here as a couple but also as part of a larger family group, including my niece and nephew (12 and 8 respectively). Our room was the Illingworth room. It was huge, facing out across the road to the lovely old church. Road noise was minimal and the bed extremely comfy with good pillows which were not too soft, perfect for us. We slept well. "A fabulous little gem. The bar man even fixed my broken heel! Now that's going above and beyond. The lovely ladies even made My dog his own sausage for breakfast. Beds were comfy. My only issue would be it's a little bit cold in places but it's a old building whose owners (not staff) need to give it a bit of TLC "

"Amazing. Right from the start the staff were friendly, polite and welcoming. Food was delicious - we ate at the hotel for dinner - having the 'pigs' in blanket sharing starter and then both steak pies. Next morning - breakfast was great - although there was no 'bacon' for us - the server compensated by offering us additional sausages - so it wasn't too much of a disappointment. "

"Really enjoyed our stay. Only negative was that the dinner menu was the same each night. The staff were very friendly and polite. A very dog friendly hotel too - you had the option to have meals in a nice room with your dog - this isn’t the case in some dog friendly hotels. Would stay again."

The ambience & the decor is beautiful but it was the service we received by all of the staff and the food which was the highlight of our trip. "Local, family managed hotel, located on a beautiful spot of the river. Lovely vibe, and welcoming and the breakfast was exceptional!! It’s not a Holiday Inn /Marriott formulaic residence, much more of an authentic local hotel, so without some of the frills, but the honest warm welcome and great food more than makes up"

"Nice clean comfortable room but no tea spoons so a bit of a challenge to make a cup of tea! We arrived at 8.30pm and they had stopped food. However, they rustled us up a plate of chips :) "

"Overall good, mattress could do with replacing as it squeaked whenever you moved and window frames were mouldy and shower leaked but I would stay again. Carvery was good and parking convenient. Staff great. "

"This is a relaxed small hotel - a bit like a guest house / hotel with good dining and bar for locals. Sawley is very convenient for Fountains Abbey but isolated - a car is essential. The Spanish chef was very good, as was the room andvthe staff attentive "
