"Good place for a 2 night stay. Single beds were very narrow for an adult. No towels or tea towels which would have been good. Service from the owner was brilliant...she is a very nice lady. It was a shame that the pub/restaurant has closed as you have to go in to Berwick for food. "

"Great place as a base for exploring the Borders. Overall stay was good. Room was exceptionally clean(had a couple of minor niggles but these were dealt with happily and swiftly). Stayed in a double which was quite small (with only one bedside table). Would 'upgrade' to a larger room if staying again. The best thing about this hotel is the people and the outstanding service they provide-nothing too much trouble and so friendly. Ooh- and good food including a fab breakfast. "

Hume Castle. 13th century Hume Castle stands on a prominent mound visible for miles. It was the seat of the Humes and conveniently placed to keep an eye on the English border stronghold of Roxburgh, just outside modern Kelso. The castle was destroyed in 1651 by the artillery of Oliver Cromwell.
