"Great place for families visiting Shimoda and Izu Peninsula. Definitely a hotel catering to Japanese tourists, but with a little Japanese and respect the staff is very friendly and works with you. Some of the staff spoke some English. Bathhouse, arcade, and hotel amenities were great. Walking distance to everything downtown and easy spot to drive to other locations. Would definitely stay here again with family on vacation. "

"Oni no sumika is a beautiful ryokan tucked away in Shuzenji. The staff are all extremely kind and accommodating (they do not speak English, so google translator is a must if you’re foreign and they are quick to use it) The traditional breakfast was great, with many small dishes that leave you satisfied but not full to start your day. If I am in shuzenji again I will be staying here."

In the evening, we enjoyed playing table tennis, which added to the fun of our stay. The onsen with a sea view was incredibly relaxing—definitely a highlight! We recommend booking a stay that includes dinner and breakfast, as dining options nearby are quite limited, though there is a convenience store within a 5-minute walk."
