"Had a good one night stay here. I was worried it wouldn’t be enough time to see everything i wanted too, but it turned out to be perfect. You can drop off your luggage before and after you check in which is really nice. Highlights for me were the public bath, and morning ceremony."

"This will have to be my most favorite part of my trip to Japan. You will have to intentionally come here for the temple stay. First and foremost, the facility will ONLY ACCEPT CASH payment for the stay. Though my wife and I were not too fond of the shared wash rooms to wash up. I don’t believe the facility has rooms with private wash rooms. The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. "We got to stay here for the night of news years eve and enjoyed a vegetarian dinner. My husband cannot eat any wheat or gluten so the monks made sure he had a special vegetable dish with no soy sauce. The rooms were at first cold but with the heaters warmed up nicely. "It’s worth noting that this is not a normal hotel but a traditional pilgrim’s lodging, so it is expected that you sleep on a mat on the floor and the facilities are relatively basic. You are staying here for the experience. The property was clean with onsen (hot bath) provided and our room had its own toilet/sink. Our only complaint is that they no longer serve food and we were not notified of this despite this being part of our booking, however we found a restaurant for dinner walking distance...

"Far walk for us and dinner is exotic and different. But absolutely beautiful place. Clean and amazing private onsen. We loved the gift shop and they gave us robes to use. Breakfast buffet excellent. Overall wonderful visit, would recommend and wish i can go again someday. "

"We enjoyed the ryokan very much for the authenticity of old Japan. The dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Wearing the yutaka at the property was such a thrill for us. The staff were so friendly, kind and attentive. Thank you for your hospitality. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Such a contrast from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and Osaka central. And the view from the 5th floor! Breathtaking. Very convenient to be shuttled from the train station. Thank you again. "

"I did initially have problems with the amount of bedding which was eventually sorted out. The property is very clean, spacious, has everything you need and a family mart across the corner. I would stay again."

"My stay at Hotel Monterey Le Frere was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I arrived, the warm and attentive staff made me feel welcome and valued. The room was immaculate, blending modern amenities with traditional Japanese touches, creating an atmosphere of comfort and authenticity. The location was perfect—conveniently situated near [specific landmarks, transportation, or attractions], making it easy to explore the beauty and culture of Japan. Clean and super friendly staff

"Hotel staff were very helpful and super nice. They helped us with transportation as well as give us information on where we can take the train to get to places. They used google translate when they had a hard time explaining what they meant. The hotel was very clean and organized and staff were always there to help when needed. The cafe/restaurant downstairs was also great for my family to just get a quick bite to eat and was super convenient. They also had souvenir shop with it too. The amenity bar was super and location to nearby train station as well as Universal Studios park was just across the street. Definitely will be staying there again on our next visit."
