"I imagine this hotel was nice… 20 years ago when the photos advertising it were taken. Such a shame because it’s a nice building in a lovely area. I can’t speak for the original building itself, maybe those rooms are better kept, but we were placed in the outbuilding across the way and the rooms were incredibly tired and shoddy, with chipped paintwork and soiled carpet. "Had a lovely 2 nights, mid-week at the Old Lockup. Very characterful and full of memorabilia from when it was a police station. Stayed in The Magistrates room on the first floor, very warmly decorated and furnished with a small en-suite. With Tea,Coffee and even a small fridge with complimentary bottle of milk and water. "Very clean and convenient thank you. However terrible if you want a good night's sleep. The walls are paper thin. I could hear everything in the room next door. I was woken repeatedly and ended up leaving at 8am on Sunday morning to escape. "

"We had a lovely but brief stay at Buxton. Alex was there to greet us with lots of suggestions for things to do. There are no surprises-the property is listed accurately. The beds are clean and the shower is hot!"

"Check-in was at 3pm. No details regarding check-in were sent prior to the check-in. I called many times seeking information but was told that the information would be provided to me at 3pm however no details were sent. @4pm l was still chasing for the details. At around 4:30pm thats when they decided to tell me that the place wasn't ready and the cleaners hadn't been around to clean. The most frustrating thing is that they could have apologised and gave me a heads up than for me to travel then...

Peaceful Place for Recharge

"I loved every moment of my stay. I needed a relaxing break and this gem was perfect. I loved the decor in the hotel and had a lovely room. A well equipped gym and clean pool. Breakfast was included which was a bargain. Will defo come back to visit ☺️"

"We really enjoyed our stay, lovely room, comfy bed, great shower and luxury coffee machine. The pub is very nice with fantastic breakfast. Great location. The only thing was the room was too hot, no way to turn off the heated towel rail in the bathroom, to be fair we should have just asked. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back."

"The venue is in a beautiful historic building. The facilities are great including a pool with sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The rooms had massive comfy beds and were cleaned daily with plenty of towels and extra tea, coffee and biscuits. My only quibble is that the rooms didn’t have internet tvs. "

Great hotel

"Great hotel, clean and tidy, lots of parking. Bed comfortable. Hotel was quiet. Only complaint was not having coffee granules available (had Taylors coffee bags which are horrible). Breakfast was adequate - hot food wasn't very hot even when just put out. Would stay there again"

"Although a 3* Hotel, the service we received was more in keeping with a 5*. Our room was clean, free of dust and mould, loved the decor. The swimming pool was a huge attraction for my grandchildren and we were able to continue using the facilities after we had officially checked out. Food was well presented and good sized portion. "

Grand traditional comfortable hotel

"Georgian grand hotel. Hotel has done well to preserve the grand features. This is one for those who like character to a building. Staff were excellent. Service was fast and efficient. Lots of nooks and crannies to sit in with loads of old style leather oxblood sofas and chairs throughout- so comfortable after dinner drinking. Food was lovely. Only requests would be for fresh juices at breakfast rather than concentrate/ squash and a scrambled egg option. Very nice stay - will return. "
