"It said to have been a 16th century inn, but its facilities are considerably well updated. Our room including its bathroom are on par with, or perhaps exceed, current standards. Its restaurant and bar are great. Also, its location is convenient for traveling to/from Stonehenge and Salisbury. The place is highly recommendable."

"Although the room was simple, it was very clean and comfortable. The location was phenomenal, directly across from from the Salisbury Cathedral in the Cathedral Close. It felt very special to be able to stay there. The included breakfast was very good. Highly recommended for a very unique stay."

"This place is an incredible gem. I can't be more serious when I say this place was an absolutely stunning find for such an affordable rate. I was coming into Salisbury to see nearby sites such as Stonehenge and Old Sarum and Salisbury Cathedral. The Red Lion is a historic, 800 year old inn located conveniently within a lovely short walk to the cathedral and a 2 minute walk to the bus station for all of the historic sites. Walking in to the ivy lined courtyard to the half timber building with the reception counter in it, I could already tell this place had been cared for very lovingly over the years. The counter staff were beyond helpful from check in onward for any requests, including allowing me to leave my luggage safely for four days and allowing me to extend my stay here not once but three times! The Red Lion has so much charm and character but is also impeccably kept up. I stayed in two different rooms while staying here and both were very clean, comfortable and spacious. I loved having a full size bathtub and also a shower option. I ate and drank in the restaurant for a few meals and the food was probably some of the best I've had at a hotel, and also reasonably priced, and the drinks were good portioned and well made. I hope to come back and stay here again. I hope this place sticks around for another 800 years!"

"Absolutely brilliant stay. We've not been before, but heard good things from many many people. That was worrying because expectations were high - but brilliantly, we were not disappointed. We'd happily come back again soon. We were lucky to be able to travel out of peak time, so it was nicely quiet, although still had enough people for a nice atmosphere. And the weather was perfect too. "

"Exec room needed 2 comfy chairs and a table. TV did not swivel.Door closers noisy, clunk bang from 6 am in the morning. No air con so if the weather is hot an option of opening the window is a choice of traffic noise or heat. Did not eat in the restaurant as the menu looked very average, A whole side dedicated to Mac (what ever that is)."
