"I’m as disappointed with Expedia as I am this hotel. When I made the reservation I clearly indicated it was for two people. It showed there were twin beds. When I got there they said because there was an extra person (my wife) I had to pay $75 extra for that night. I will never use Expedia again. This is the second negative episode in a week I have had with Expedia in which there were a “screw-ups”"

"The property is very nice and had no problems with staff. They were very nice and helpful. However, for those looking to access public transportation this hotel is not for you. I didn’t realize how far away this hotel was from bus stops or train stations when booking and found myself kind of stranded (I tried to walk to the bus stop 20minutes away and the streets immediately around the hotel are not designed for pedestrians). "It was very fun to be so pampered and taken care of. As soon as we arrived, the staff were there ready to pamper us. One of the ladies spoke English, and was very helpful in navigating our first stay at a Ryokan. Dinner was very fun. The onsens were an exciting new experience as well. We thoroughly enjoyed it."

"The property is nice and has all required aspects for a family stay with kids with a small kids library shelf near the reception, vending machine and dining hall access throughout. Staff were also very nice and parking was ample and easy. Only regret for this property was the carpet in the room was quite old, stained and dusty - it needs replacement or deep cleaning. "This property is great and had very friendly staff! The price was incredible and we booked day of! The only complaint is have is the bed was really hard! But other than that our stay was amazing! They also have lockers you can use on the day of checkout to store luggage until you leave the Mt. Fuji area! "

Breathing views / warm welcome

"My husband and I visited Lake Shoji for the first time in January. It was a rainy day when we checked in so we could not see Fuji San, but the warm welcome we received made up for the lack of view, even before we checked in, a very very kind employee helped us back into our parking spot. He also took our luggage in to the lobby. The desk employee was very kind and was willing to work with our limited Japanese. The owner even gave us a cup of tea and chocolates when we first arrived they also gave us many travel itinerary suggestions for the local area. We went with a traditional Japanese style room. It was very cozy, and spacious for the two of us in the morning rewarded with a beautiful view of Mount Fuji I cannot recommend this hotel enough! Lake Shoji is the least developed of the Fuji Lakes, and unfortunately this hotel does not offer any dining options (they are working on it tho!). I highly suggest eating dinner before you check in or making sure you bring food with you. "

"We had the best time on our 1 night stay here. We booked a room with a private onsen and half board. It was very easy for us to call for the hotel shuttle when we arrived at Kawaguchiko Station. There is an area for hotel shuttle pick up where we waited for only 10 min or so. Our accommodations were clean and comfortable. The heater in the room worked well. The private bathroom, shower, and onsen all worked well. I loved that we had a view of Mt Fuji from our private onsen bath when the clouds were clear. Our kaiseki dinner was served in our room and it was delicious. The chef even had an extra seasonal dish included with our meal. It was such a wonderful new experience for us. Breakfast also very delicious and set up in the common eating area which had a great view of the the late and mountains. The hotel has a great rooftop Mt. Fuji view of the whole area and I recommend venturing up there. We did not have time to visit the public onsen but I would love to visit here again in the future and try it out. The staff was kind and helpful, everything was clean, quiet, and relaxing. "
