"I really enjoyed my stay here. I was travelling for business so had little time for site seeing but the area was beautiful. Hotel was spotlessly clean and the food was amazing. Clearly run by someone who wants to provide excellent service. If I visit the area again this is the first hotel I will try to book. "

"This is a privately owned hotel that has all the qualities of a major 5 star chain, it is spotless, the attention to detail in everything is incredible, it’s a warmly welcome from everyone and the amount of customers it gets shows, there are no signs of cheap bedroom furniture bought from cheap shops, everything is matching and feels like quality. "Really enjoyed my time here, mostly peaceful, food good and left alone as needed privacy. Lovely pub and surroundings. Only gripes would be loud music until 2.00am in the morning one of nights I was there, but I guess this comes with staying in a pub. Also nasty smell in shower/toilet room, Maybe a problem with water pipes. Sort of like a dirty drain smell. Shame as the rest of my experience was great."

"We booked this pub/hotel for a two night stay due to going to a wedding at Hallington Mill a venue approximately 15mins drive away. Arriving on a Friday afternoon we received a lovely friendly welcome and had a evening meal on our first night. We stayed in room 7 a fantastic large bathroom which look brand new. Every member of staff we had dealings with very friendly and helpful. "

"Bowes is perfect for visiting Hadrian’s Wall and the many forts and museums around. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate both nights at the Bowes and the food on both nights was very good. The Thai food was delicious and you could tell it was all freshly prepared and cooked. The bed was comfortable and ideal for us after long walks. We would have no hesitation in staying again."

"I wanted a low budget one night stay. Although property is old fashioned, my single room, with en suite was very clean and bed was comfortable The breakfast cerea,l yogurt etc was an unexpected bonus. Kettle, microwave and fridge in room. Member of staff on arrival friendly and helpful. I couldn’t get the tv to find any chanels, but not there long enough to enquire about it. "Great apartment in great house. Everything was comfortable and clean. It had a little kitchenette which we didn't use but it would have been useful for a longer stay. I have marked you down 1 star on Communications as I could find the information regarding check out time on the last day and it was hard to find it online, it said 11am in one place and 12 noon another. I had to go to the Holiday Inn checkout next door and ask them in person. "
