"Ok, first up: The Dark Horse is a (quirky, friendly, lively) pub on a main road, so if you’re looking for a tranquil escape this ain’t it. But that, and the location (15 mins to the city centre on the bus, which comes about every five minutes) made it ideal for my overnight stay - and the lovely lady who showed me to my room even offered earplugs (I always travel with my own, so no need, and I slept like a baby even though it was Friday night and the bar was open til 2am). "We had a very lovely twin room. The room contained every facility you could wish for, and some. The food in the restaurant (including breakfast) was superb and the service throughout the hotel was second to none. Wanted to bring my husband next time for his birthday but the date is limited to a two night stay so very disappointed that this time, I can’t. "

"Quirky, quiet place to stay between the river and the canal. Lovely, comfy room and quiet. The restaurant is open Weds onwards. There is a Toby Carvery a few minutes down the road but not dog friendly. Gloucester centre about 10 mins drive away. Good stop on the way to Wales."

"Had an overnight stay here recently and enjoyed it. Plenty of towels, couple of bottles of water in the fridge, good tea/coffee facilities. Shower was very good. Light sleepers may be affected by cars leaving the venue via the gravel car park and the in-room fridge switching on during the night. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good selection of beers to choose from and an option to have dinner there. Separate entrance/exit from the pub entrances, very useful indeed. I would stay here...

"From the first time we walked in until the moment we left all the staff we came across were friendly, polite and very helpful.The room was clean and well kept, the bar served nice food and beer. All in all we would stay there again if down that way."

"I only had a quick visit to Berwick Lodge, late arrival and early departure , but it was a very comfortable stay with a lovely breakfast in the morning. A little pricey compared to others but still nice regardless. Will happily return "

"This was truly an “Pub with and Inn” experience. The Cat in the Custard is the hub of this small Cotswold village, so we felt like travelers in time. Our room was in the eaves and very tiny so we moved to a larger one - both were lovely. The food is very good, and the breakfast hot and plentiful. "
