"By mainland standards, this is an unusual property. There is no signage indicating the hotel. The hotel is up a hilly driveway and what looks like the lobby near street level is for a different hotel. The owners and staff are very nice and live on the property, which is in a relatively quiet residential neighborhood. The hotel has a nice breakfast but they do not provide eggs. "It's the best place to stay if you appreciate the silence and you're looking for a quiet place because is far from the town and very close to Puna Pau and that makes that at night you can see the stars so clearly. "We liked everything about this property! Odette met us at the airport, arranged tours for us, gave me a number for a taxi and showed us around the town. She is great! You can walk to town but it is a bit far and sometimes it’s hard to get a taxi if you are dining late. That is the only downside to this location. It’s about a 20 minute walk to the best restaurant which is doable!"

"The staff at Tupa hotel is very helpful and speak excellent English. This is not an island where you find luxury hotels. The facilities are well-worn and basic. Given you accept that, you would do well to book Tupa hotel for the kindness and service. Bed was comfortable. Storage plentiful. Location convenient and they were wonderful about picking me up at the airport and taking me back. On time and efficient. I had an ocean-side room with a sliding door that opened on a mini-patio. One thing you should know is that the cleaning person always left the sliding door open to air out the room. This helps prevent mildew in this tropical climate. So don't leave valuables lying around. This wasn't an issue for me since I don't travel with any valuables other than my passport and money, which I keep with me at all times. One thing I wish I knew before I went was that they can book you tours at the hotel. I booked separately and had an awful experience on the tours. Check with them about tours when you reach out to book. A beautiful island that is still rustic."

"Amazing place is owned by local friendly family. 5 minutes walk to best sunset spot on the island. Good restaurants nearby. Place is nice and clean. Full kitchen so you can cook if you want. There is no A/C in the room (but at the night it's pretty chill), and no breakfast/dining option on the property (in case you expect it)."

"Great place to stay - beautiful property with a lovely porch you can sit on and enjoy a morning coffee or an evening drink. While the area is a quiet area, you will hear the dogs, cats, and roosters if you leave your windows open! We arranged the airport pick up and drop off which was very convenient. The cabin was clean and had a kitchen, which we liked. Right next door there is a shop (which accepts cards and is open early/late) that has tons of fresh produce, frozen foods, drinks, snacks, fresh coffee, and bread, so you can easily pick up these items to use in the kitchen. Within walking distance are several restaurants, shops, the seashore, the main shopping area, and the sunset point at Ahu Tahai. You can go watch the sunset and it's about a 10-minute walk back from there. Check out the empanada spot just up the road - delicious large empanadas made to order from scratch. It felt very safe to walk around the area even after dark. Jasmin helped us with everything and was so kind and friendly. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it."
