Seit dem 7 Jhd befindet sich in Skt Paul eine Benediktinerabtei. Über den Säulen des Langschiffes befinden sich 265 Medaillons mit dem Konterfei aller Päpste. Zusätzliche Information: Der Anfang dieses Jahrtausend gefunden 2,4 m lange Sarkophag wurde mit einer endoskopischen Sonde untersucht. Man fand Stoffrest und menschliche Knochen aus dem ersten oder zweiten Jhd n. Chr. Bei dem Stoff habe er sich um purpurnes Leinen mit Goldauflage und blauen Fetzen gehandelt. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass es sich wirklich um den 67 hingerichtete Märtyrer handelt, ist also sehr hoch. (Quelle www.theology.de) The Basilica is one of the four basilicas of the Pope in Rome. In the following period, the church, which is supposed to be above the grave of the apostle Paul, constantly increased and expanded. Since the 7th century a Benedictine abbey is located in Skt Paul.
