"Was a nice evening with my partner, drinks at the bar are very overpriced and the bath in our room had the enamel missing which is not very hygienic. I love a bath too but wasn’t getting in that. Food was nice. "

"Whilst on this occasion things didn’t go as planned, I still couldn’t fault the staff on the way they sorted the issue quickly and generously. It was a trip away for my birthday and everyone went out of their way to make my stay memorable for all the right reasons. Amazing food, delightful surroundings, excellent staff, couldn’t fault our stay. A special shout out and thank you to Sonia, Dan, Lucy and the lovely lady with the glasses whose name I didn’t catch who greeted us for breakfast...

"Always book Mercure when staying in Newport but last nights stay wasn’t as good as usual. There was dirt behind the sinks in the bathroom including a used feminine applicator. The bed was comfortable but despite lots of pillows none seems to be comfortable. Lots of stains on wall in bathroom and could do with repainting. Not as clean as the rooms usually are. When you pay extra for junior suite you expect a certain experience, the hotel fell short this time. "

"Lovely hotel overall. Room was comfortable and pool was nice. Bar area was great with lots of seats and food was very good - we ate in the restaurant on one night and the bar on another. The only let down was some guy of the bar/restaurant staff. It was obvious that some weren’t wanting to work and were lazy - who brings out a meal with condiments on the side of the plate next to the food!!! Just because she ‘couldn’t carry it’! "A very nice & convenient hotel for a weekend soaking up the atmosphere in Hay on Wye and browsing through the book shops. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were in Room 1 which is above the kitchen so noisy first thing in the morning. The signal for the TV was not reliable. However, these did not detract from our wonderful stay. "

"What a lovely surprise, overnight stop on returning to the Midlands from watching rugby in Cardiff. Impressive refurbishment of old historic building to create cosy pub/restaurent with rooms. Atmosphere in evening was super, busy, satff very friendly and cask ale excellent. Food was 5 star both in the evening and at breakfast. The beds are plush, ensuring a great night’s sleep, and the peaceful atmosphere makes it a perfect retreat. Every detail, from the furnishings to the thoughtful amenities, enhances the experience. The service is outstanding. The staff are welcoming, professional, and attentive, always making sure guests feel well taken care of. Whether checking in, dining, or asking for assistance, the hospitality is top-notch. The hotel’s ambience is both elegant and cozy, with a perfect balance of history and luxury. The recent refurbishment has made it even more inviting, enhancing the overall experience. For the quality offered, it provides great value. A few small extras, such as complimentary refreshments in the rooms, could enhance the stay even further. Having stayed three times, I can confidently say this is my go-to place in Caerleon.
