Our courtyard room is a bit noisy from other guests’ bathrooms, backs onto a private resident’s garden. No window views unless you stand and can see into their garden(!). Overall, a very nice hotel, comfortable."

"Loved the unique features - a free snack pantry (sweets, drinks, fruit etc.), traditional record player in each room and records to pick and choose from, quirky but tasteful decorations. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable, clean, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms with easy to use push button bath/shower (no trying to work out which knob or lever to push or pull!), very comfortable underfloor heating in the bathroom. Lovely, comfortable lounge and bar and excellent restaurant."

"What a beautiful beautiful hotel great location not far from town gates. The staff at holgate were so friendly and helpful. The room was excellent very clean and just what we needed. Thought there might be a problem being on the main road. But did not here the traffic and the bed was so comfortable. Didn't gave the breakfast as we had breakfast in town. But would definitely stay here again. Well earned 5 stars all day long"

"We came to celebrate our Diamond Wedding Anniversary here having stayed in 1965 as newlyweds. The hotel has been completely updated and our room( no.3) was luxurious. The comfortable bed was more than 6' wide and the bathroom huge with walk-in shower plus roll top bath We took our toy poodle with us who was welcomed by all the staff. The food was fantastic and very plentiful. The dog could stay with us for every meal if we desired. All in all a fantastic stay. All the staff from the Manager...
