"A great hotel just south of Puerto Viejo. Very good pool (with 2 large hot tubs). Direct accesss onto beautiful Caribbean beach. The restaurant was good although seemed quite quiet and therefore lacking some atmosphere- The only problem was that I had booked a ‘family bungalow’ by the pool thinking this would be great for a family of 4 with 2 teenage children, but these bungalows have 2 bedrooms with a single queen bed in each, and no flexibility to put in two single beds. "What a pleasant stay our family enjoyed at La Kukula Lodge! The accommodations exceeded our expections for the price. Proximity to the beach while being surrounded by jungle was fantastic! Cooked-to-order breakfast each morning ensured we started our day off right. We will definitely be back- thank you!!"

"Overall a lovely place to stay. The accommodation was lovely, clean and comfortable. The pool was perfect to relax by. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful also with recommendations of where to eat it town. The only slight negatives are there was no safe in the room and the long (about 1km) dirt road to get there, but even with a tiny 2wd car going very slow it was fine. It’s about a 20 minute walk into the main town. Overall I would definitely stay here again though "

"Shawandha Ecolodge had incredibly kind and helpful staff. The bungalow was charming and comfortable. The food at the restaurant was tasty and plentiful. The only thing that made my stay less than ideal was the construction 2 bungalows away from me. I understand there’s no truly great time to do construction, but having saws and hammering begin at 8 am and not stop until after 5 pm made it impossible to sleep in or get rest during the daytime, and for me that was kind of a big deal. "Property is very nice away from the main road which makes it pretty quiet. Breakfast was decent. Staff friendly. While we stayed there they had an issue with the Wi-fi not working, the hotel had people working on it but by the time we left there was still no internet connection."

"Very nice cabins. The ones closest to the road can be a little noisy but not unbearable. Great restaurant on the property. We also visited a nearby Caribbean restaurant called Lidia’s for delicious food. The beach is walking distance behind the property but you have to search for a safe spot to swim due to big surf "

"I had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The staff was incredibly welcoming, the food was tasty, and the beautiful beach behind the property was a wonderful bonus—it felt almost private. Waking up to the sounds of howler monkeys in the morning was a memorable experience. Just keep in mind that having a car is beneficial. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing and peaceful getaway!"
