"Thomaz Palace was a perfect place to stay in Porto. It had a grocery store and the metro within a 5 minute walk. You can walk to Santa Catarina street within 10 minutes. Lots of shops, pastry locations and the Balhoa Market. We would highly recommend Thomaz Palace."

"What a terrible experience. The property requires an access code to enter the rooms and I didn't receive the access code for my first night. I spent more than 2 hours with hotels.com support while they tried to contact the property to get me into the room. I also tried contacting the property myself but they did not answer. I did get into the property the next day but it left a sour taste in my mouth. Worst of all, I contacted hotels.com for a refund and they said they cannot do it because...

"A good location with lovely shops and eating places around. Eduardo at reception was so kind and helpful and went above and beyond to help and advise. I was generally happy with the apartment and the bed was comfy. I had everything I needed for 4 nights. A few small niggles though… The terrace area overlooks a horrible dirty courtyard and tables and chair for sitting badly need replaced. Shower needs drain unblocked as tray filled up quickly. Extremely noisy above from others moving around until...

"The staff were very friendly and kind. The breakfast served was one of the best we’ve had at any hotel with lots of variety and such fresh fruit. We enjoyed walking through the vineyard and found it an excellent spot to explore Douro. Highly recommend. "

"Covelo-Original is exactly what a small guesthouse should be. Our stay was perfect. The Covelo is in the heart of old town and steps away from restaurants and just over the bridge is the religious centre. The room had everything needed (fridge, kettle, coffeemaker, all of which aren’t common in a POR room). "If you bring a car into Porto with you this place would be exelent choice. There is no reception but someone from Sweet Porto team will meet you at the door or parking entrance around a corner. They will explain how things work, what to see, where to shop and eat. There is a full kitchen with necessary stuff for light cooking. Communication is easy though WhatsUp practically any time."

"Its a nice basic place near to Campanha Station, which has long distance trains to Lisbon and the south, plus regional trains along the scenic Douro Valley. Metro and rail services into the city centre also available, plus direct metro from airport. The room itself was clean and comfortable, en suite, albeit a bit compact. I was checked in by the owner who remembered me from my last visit, and he was very kind to ask about my father who stayed with me last time, which was a nice touch."
