We were initially thinking of going by taxi but trying to get a taxi on New Year's Eve is a nightmare and there's no guarantee anyway that they would actually turn up. "Excellent traditional English inn with lots of charm and character. The comfortable, warm room on a freezing January night was most welcome, as were the open log fires in the bar/restaurant. The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating and the food was to a very good standard. The Timothy Taylor’s Landlord Bitter was an unexpected bonus !"

"When we arrived at the Griffin, to our surprise, our reservation was canceled. Apparently, the Griffin had a water leak and were in the process of repairing the damage. They said that an email was sent to us canceling our reservations 2 days prior. We were on a cruise at the time and did not get this email because we had no service while on the cruise. It was a very unfortunate situation. We are from the USA and found out upon arrival in England that our cell phones were not working properly so...
