I rented a bike to explore a village on the outskirts of Tirana, Albania and found this little diamond on the rough. "Private accommodation approx. 30 minutes walk from the center of Tirana. A spacious bedroom with a balcony compensates for the shared kitchen and bathroom. The modern house is in a pleasant residential area surrounded by well-kept gardens. The owners are very accommodating and nice young people. Everything radiates a very pleasant energy."

"No name outside or anywhere. It took me two hours in the rain and dark, with my big suitcase, to find it and none of the local people or my taxi driver had heard of it. Only when a local Albanian girl phoned the owner was she guided, and I followed her, down a dark hidden alley to a room on the ground floor, with 4 unmade bunk beds, no concealing curtains and a pile of what looked like used sheets on a couch. It was now very late. I felt unsafe so left to book in to a nearby hotel."
