We did not rent a car and the apartment is about a mile from town. I would say you might want one if you want to be out late. The trail to town is rustic and not something you could do in the dark. It is very steep! The apartment was well equipped and we got groceries and made a lite dinner each...

"A lovely apartment with a fantastic view of Lake Maggiore and Isola Bella. An electric gate to spacious parking - difficult to find in Stresa apartments! A short walk to Carcione ferry station to go to the islands, but a short drive to a large car park in Stresa next to Stresa ferry station so very easy to get around. Apartment very well equipped - everything you need. Thank you for a lovely stay."
