"If you want to wake up to the most beautiful view of Lake Atitlan and connect with nature you have to stay at El Picnic. We had the most amazing two night stay there. The food and drinks were top notch - Johan is an excellent chef. We enjoyed having breakfast and dinner with Johan, Gaby and the other couples. We just happened to be there during a meteor shower too and we saw 10 shooting stars from our patio. It was perfect! The two resident dogs were sweet and greeted us every day. The walk to the boat doc is only about 10 minutes (or you can take a quick tuktuk) so you can easily explore the towns around the lake. I’m so thankful we found this hidden gem."

"This place is a must stay if you're staying in Lake Atitlan! The grounds are beautiful and the staff are lovely! My only advise of caution is that there are a lot of steep steps so just keep that in mind if you have mobility/accessibilty issues. "

"The hostel is located right at the base of Santa Cruz which made it super easy to grab the lanchas. My friend and I stayed in a private suite which was really nice and cozy. The grounds of the hostel itself are stunning and so relaxing! They host family-style dinner's every night which was so wholesome and was a great way to meet new people. The only cons I will say is that there's only wifi in the common spaces, and wifi doesn't reach the rooms. Other than that, I loved my stay! "

"This is a beautiful property. The botanical gardens at Hotel Atitlan ALONE are worth the stay. There is an area within the garden with roses variants going back to the 16th century! The Christmas lights set up within the garden are beautiful. The sunrises and sunsets are breath taking. Will definitely stay there again on our next visit."

"Beautiful spot with spectacular lake and volcano view. Fairly well equipped kitchen. 3 large bedrooms - one upstairs with beautiful morning sun. Easy transport with local boat driver, though a bit expensive. Very accommodating to our changes in schedule. "

"Very charming hotel overlooking the lake. Lovely landscaping made for beautiful outdoor spaces to lie in a hammock, sit by the water, etc. Our room was clean and nice, but the bathroom and sheets could have been better. Breakfast was good - you get some options of traditional Guatemalan, more American style, pancakes, yogurt/granola etc. It is built into the hillside over the lake so there is some walking up and down to get around, but the staff kindly helped us with our luggage. No TVs in our room so would recommend bringing books / a deck of cards. We enjoyed using the free kayaks but were a little disappointed the hot tub was an additional charge. The area is in between San Juan and San Pedro - it's an easy walk into San Juan by a path down by the water, and easy to walk into San Pedro too but it's along a main road without sidewalks. Tuktuks are cheap and easy ways to get around, as are water taxis."
