"Excellent location, spacious, clean room with a country feel. I loved the all-around heating stove and the beautiful heating stove from 1773 just took us back in time. If I stay in Gruyeres again I would choose this place again, for the above reasons. "

"We wanted a therme hotel where you can swim thru from inside to outside due to construction at hotel it was not possible. We only used it twice the entire week we stayed there. Would not recommend hotel while under construction."

"I stayed here for 2 nights in 4 days, same room both times so cannot comment on different room types. From the moment you walk through the entrance the welcome is very warm. Check-in quick and very friendly, glass of bubbly if that floats your boat. The hotel has the feel of a grand country house with generously sized rooms, a separate closet/ room for clothing etc and a good-sized bathroom. Bed very comfortable, pillows soft but a bit slim but there are spares in the room so all good. Checkout just as quick with the offer of a bottle of water for the journey. I didn't eat in the hotel so unable to comment on the restaurant. Overall, lovely hotel which is very well located by the lake, with a very friendly set of staff. Highly recommended."

"Thomas is an amazing host, as from the get go he was very responsive & helpful with any queries. The Chalet Barbara is a truly magical place and the family history attached to it makes is even more special! The hike up there is a bit of a challenge with luggage if you are on foot, as we had to climb during very heavy rain - but the views certainly makes it all worth it. Stay here if you get the chance - you are sure to love it! :) "

"Handy being 30 seconds away from train station. Not much in area as far as bars or restaurants. No bar in hotel either. Beautiful views of lake from room though. "
