"My husband and I needed a quiet weekend escape and this place fit the bill perfectly. Despite the chill outside, the house remained perfectly cozy. It's also a very reasonable drive from Portal and the Cave Creek area if that's your trip goal. Our host was great. It's the perfect place to get off the beaten path for a bit. We had no cellphone service, but the wifi worked great. "

"This was our second visit to the Painted Pony and it was again a delight for everyone from the four-year old, through the tweens and teens, my grown and married children, and for Grandma and Grandpa. Lots of space, lots of fun things to do (swimming, sauna, basketball, pool, ping pong, etc. It is in the middle of nowhere, which we LOVED! Close to the Chiricahua Mts with great easy and hard hikes. The hosts were very responsive also."

"The working ranch studio is just a unique and fun experience. They have done a great job making the studio into an enjoyable place to spend a few days. Putting bird seed into the feeders the day/night we arrived was pretty cool as we were able to enjoy lots of birds right out the front windows during our stay, Lots of stuff in the kitchen available for cooking including spices, oil, etc. Even foods left by previous occupants (e.g. oatmeal). Fun rocks, minerals, and artifacts on display."

"I felt so at ease in this home surrounded by distant mountains. Everything I needed was provided. Loved the quiet on the sunny porch. Then there was the bonus of John sharing the night sky with his telescope and vast knowledge. Wish I could have stayed longer. "
