"Absolutely loved our trip for valentines weekend, the place was lovely and staff super helpful and friendly. Room was clean, our only gripe that while the bed was comfy, the base of the bed had seen better days and was incredibly squeaky with the slightest movement. Not good for a valentines getaway, but rheres always got to be something. Informed the staff and they said they'd ask the cleaner to check it out. I would highly recommend Lamb and Flag for a stay, and at the time of this review. They are dog friendly. "

"We went for a Valentines weekend. On arrival the staff were professional and friendly. For some reason we were not given the room I thought I had booked via Expedia, but the character of the room was immense although it was in the rafters. Unfortunately my husband is almost 6'4" tall and struggled in the room due to the low ceiling and sloping beam. The owner upgraded us, at no extra charge, to an absolutely beautiful room. I can say that we will definitely go back! The food was excellent, the area brought back childhood memories for my husband. I had never been to Crickhowell (Crug Hywel), and my husband had not been for some 60 years. It was an amazing weekend for us. Highly recommended."

"Love the Metropole.. the staff are excellent especially Spencers Brasserie staff .. food fabulous .good menu and very attentive staff. Lovely spa facilities .. good bed linen .. could do with better coffee in rooms and biscuits, also no non alco cocktails in bar.. but still had the best of times"

"Wonderful stay whilst we explored Hay on Wye for a few days which was a short drive away. Very comfortable and clean and lovely cooked breakfast although not much continental selection. Had an open fire inside the entrance where you could sit and relax. We managed to lock ourselves out of our room leaving the key inside and the property were contacted easily and they gave us a spare key to get back in. We would stay again. Only tip for staying is to book restaurants nearby and research in advance as we struggled on the Sunday to find somewhere for an evening meal lots of local places stop serving Sunday lunch at around 3-4pm. There is also a lovely garden centre with a restaurant a short distance from here. "

"The room I stayed in in this beautiful building was possibly one of the most beautiful I have ever stayed in. However when it came to the service of the staff there was a lot left to be desired... and this was in no means the fault of the staff of which there were only two... to run the bar and service the needs of the guests. I did feel that it was odd that every time I called the hotel before arriving that there was never anyone manning the phone, but regardless we were not put off. If I was to visit again, I would want to know that I wouldn't have to wait at an empty bar for 12 minutes before being served (I know the 2 staff, one of which was a trainee) were busy with the dining but at £270 a night, that isn't good enough and not my problem... I don't wish to seem petty but lots of other short comings occurred like being first into the dining hall and one of last to have our order taken, waiting until the end of our starter before our drinks arrived and taking far too long to reseat us when my wife couldn't read the menu because of the dim light. I get that there was only two staff and there were 10 couples in the dining room but this is a failing from a managerial point of view which I definitely didn't expect from such a seemingly highbrow establishment. "
