"The Putaruru Hotel has definitely seen better days. The photos of the outside were taken at least a decade ago. When we showed up it was looking very drab. All of the common areas like the bar, ballroom and lounge have been locked up. The lounge had a huge stack of mattresses in it. It's a bit sad to see how glamorous the building must have been and now it has been neglected. There was a strong smell of damp, carpet cleaner and cigarettes in the corridor.
